We would first like to congratulate two Southeast cheer squads, NHS Cheerleaders in Durham, NC and Teal in Mathews, NC. These two squads were chosen as top finalists in the “Be Strong” Challenge.
Next year, the team with the most votes will pose together for a Milk Mustache ad to be featured in the May/June 2012 issue of American Cheerleader Magazine. The good news doesn’t end there, for every vote, $1 will go to Cheer For A Cure, to help raise funds for those affected by cancer. Not only will you be voting for your favorite cheer squad, but you will also help a cause that affects millions.

SUDIA was a proud sponsor of The Georgia Academy of Family Physicians’ Annual Scientific Assembly and Exhibition on November 12th. Family Physicians came from all over Georgia to learn about the Fuel Up to Play 60 program and it’s role in helping to fight childhood obesity. While being entertained by Atlanta Falcons’ mascot, Freddie Falcon, physicians learned how they can get involved and become supporters of the initiative. Fueling up with nutrient rich foods and playing for 60 minutes is a message physicians can support. Everyone had a blast and we have the pictures to prove it. If you attended, leave a comment and let us know how much fun you had and what you think about our FUTP60 program. We thank everyone for stopping by our booth and we hope to see you again next year!
Of course, we couldn’t show you all of the fun here, for more photos, head on over to our Facebook page and or simply click here.

Has your family had their dairy today? If you are browsing the Internet looking for a recipe, we have got just the dessert for you. And yes, you will be able to get in that last serving of dairy. Check out this recipe and more on the Fuel Up to Play 60 website.
Baked Apples with Cinnamon Yogurt Topping
Ingredients
- 4 Granny Smith or Gala apples (with or without skin)
- 1/4 cup unsweetened apple juice or apple cider
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the cinnamon yogurt topping:
- 2 1/2 cups low-fat plain yogurt
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray an 8×8-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray; set aside.
Core and thinly slice apples. Place apples in a medium bowl and toss with apple juice. Mix brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt together in a small bowl. Sprinkle over apples and stir gently until apples are coated.
Pour apples into prepared baking dish. Bake 40 minutes or until apples are slightly browned at edges and sauce is bubbling.
For the cinnamon yogurt topping: Line a colander with several paper towels and place over a bowl to catch drips. Pour yogurt into colander and allow to drain, refrigerated, about 30 minutes. Spoon yogurt into a small bowl and stir in honey and cinnamon.
For each serving, top 1/4 of the warm apples with 1/4 of the yogurt topping.

The Georgia School Nutrition Association (GSNA) held their Let’s Move kickoff rally at R.E. McNair High School in DeKalb County earlier this month.
Students, parents, and special guests enjoyed VIP Time (Visiting, Interacting, and Playing) as they snacked on dairy smoothies and other healthy snacks. Students exercised and won great prizes, like watching that Atlanta Falcons take on the Philadelphia Eagles, this past Sunday, while being educated on healthy dairy choices and learning how to incorporate activity into their daily lives. Winning an mp3 player from the Ryan Cameron (V-103 Radio Host) Foundation was another major highlight of the event.
SUDIA made sure the kickoff rally was filled with many special guests that got the crowd going as the McNair band played a few tunes. Former Atlanta Falcon, Chuck Smith, educated students on playing for 60 minutes a day and incorporating dairy into a healthy lifestyle. We brought the Atlanta Falcon’s Cheerleaders to perform the Let’s Move Beyonce dance, along with other students from surrounding schools. One of the tastiest treats of the event was getting taste some yummy smoothies made with dairy.
This event was the kick-off event for the GSNA Let’s Move Fit and Fun Tour that will be touring all over the state of Georgia. The 15 planned stops are sponsored by Georgia’s Dairy Farm Families through Fuel Up To Play 60!
If the GSNA Let’s Move Fit and Fun Tour stops at your school, be sure to participate. You will learn so much about dairy and being active, meet a few special guests, and winning big prizes doesn’t sound like a bad idea either.
Visit the GSNA Facebook page for pictures and updates. If the tour stops at your school send us pictures and let us know how you got moving.

Today is World School Milk Day and in honor of it, we would like to know what your school has planned, comment and tell us. Did you dress in black and white like a Holstein Cow? Do you have a song or a dance? Let us know!
September 27th, 2011
The last Wednesday in September is such a special and fun day for students all around the world. It’s World School Milk Day (WSMD) and kids everywhere are getting involved.
Since it’s induction eleven years ago, WSMD has been a celebration of every child’s favorite drink and the drink their parents grew up on. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, their goal is “to provide a particular day when attention is focused on school milk and to have all countries celebrating on the same day.” SUDIA helps with this initiative by supporting and promoting good nutrition along with the great benefits of milk and dairy.
To make WSMD even more fun this year, SUDIA has a few tips that you could try to get the students at your school moooooving in the right direction. Log onto www.southeastdairy.org for tips. Below we have listed a few ways other countries have celebrated WSMD. These celebrations are creative and fun, but they also educate children on the importance of their daily intake of milk.
- Australia ran the ‘Milk It’ competition for primary school kids to create a cartoon character to illustrate why drinking milk is great
- Kids in South Korea made a map of the world entirely from milk cartoons
- The Danish School Milk Scheme invited all 650,000 school children to enter photo competition for WSMD
- In Pakistan, WSMD has been celebrated in a day long carnival attended by 24,000 people
- In Singapore, kids drank milk together on WSMD to raise $32,000 for charity
- In Croatia, kids designed posters about why they like drinking milk.
We would love to see pictures of students dressed in black and white on WSMD to celebrate the Holstein cow. How will you celebrate WSMD this year?
